1.) Does Exactly What It's Sopposed To Do Very Well.

As with any tool, how "good" it is perceived to be is usually based on our intended use. With that being said, this is a very good tool and is also being offered at a good price. Buy it locally and you will have to pay sales tax. Buy it online for a few dollars cheaper and you will have to pay shipping. I certainly wouldn't buy a bunch for resale, but for light duty and small chores, this tool will get the job done.
If you need a mechanic's type tool set for work; this tool is not for you. If you want a tool capable of busting loose lug nuts to change tires, this tool is not useful for that. You get the point, this tool is not an "All in one", "Do Everything" tool - nor is it advertised as being one.
What this tool does do well is handle small jobs around the house. I have many corded and cordless tools as well as a couple of air tools. I use those for my heavy work. However, for around the house, this kind of tool can't be beat for convenience. It's lightweight, can get into small spaces and if the power isn't quite enough for what you are loosening or tightening, then you can use it like a manual wrench and it will do whatever your muscles will allow you to do.
The instruction manual that comes with this tool states that you should break a nut/bolt loose in the tool's manual mode (or do the final tightening), and THEN use this tool in the powered mode to finish screwing or unscrewing the bolt/nut/screw. This tool WILL NOT break loose a very tight bolt/nut in the powered mode and it WILL NOT tighten a bolt/nut sufficiently in the power mode. However, used per the manufacturer's instructions, IT WILL properly handle a surprising number of small jobs and beats hauling a heavy tool bag around for small, simple jobs. I find myself using this tool more and more because of its convenience. That's what I bought it for.
This is "only" a 1/4" drive, however, get a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter (very inexpensive) and a whole lot of other sockets become useable. My biggest gripe with my cordless tools is that when I reach for one when I have a small job to do and I find that the battery has drained just sitting on the shelf. NiCad batteries are notorious for this and defeats the purpose of a cordless tool for me (for occasional use). This tool has the newest and best in cordless battery technology - namely a Lithium-Ion battery. Lithium-Ion batteries don't have the same problems as NiCad batteries. Lithium-Ion batteries hold their charge - even after sitting for months at a time not in a charger. Not only that, but the Lithium-Ion batteries last longer than NiCad's and don't develop "memory". That means that you will get more uses out of this battery before it starts loosing the ability to accept a full charge.
I don't like to see a tool get knocked unfairly. Most of us have heard the saying "Use the right tool for the right job", and the same holds true here. For a tool to use around the house, this one would be very convenient and do the job most would need for light work. Even if you are a professional who uses hand and power tools on your job, this tool could still have a place among your other tools. This tool is well above just a power screwdriver and as I stated previously, if it doesn't have enough power for what you are use it for, then use it manual mode. If that's not enough power for the job, then you are using the wrong tool. I am an ex-mechanic and a certified tool nut. I've done construction/ destruction and many other tool related jobs in between. I own more tools than I realistically will ever need, however, I'm glad I picked up one of these tools to have around the house for when I just want to grab something for a light job and have the battery still charged when I reach for it and let me get a small project done. This it does very well.
Just some food for thought.

9.) Airline Line Mechanics Dream
Reviewed by: J. Campbell Roanoke, VA USA

At an Airline to remain nameless while I was working there, everyone had these. We use them on the line where there is no air for air tools other than a nitrogen bottle. The tool does an excellent job in removing and installing nuts and bolts. It seems to get them just a tight enough for torquing, but not over tightened. If you desire to use German Torque (Good'n'Tight), then run the unit til it stops, and pull your own torgue. This is one of the best tools that I have added to my tool box in a VERY long time. The tool is well built, and appears to be heavy duty. I highly recommend it for all mechanics. A power tool that has no Power Cord, or dragging a bulky air hose to those tight places where you really prefer not to be. The tool is covenant to grab, and comfortable to use.
However, no product is without negatives and I would not be fair not to mention them. I have found 2.
1.) Takes longer to charge that I would prefer, but 1 charge lasts all week (never ran all the way down on me, and I am a heavy user of it).
2.) A little Bulky. In some REAL tight places, it is tough to get the exact right angle... However, I find it works in over 99% of the places I have desired to use it, and is a real time saver.
Overall rating from me would be a 9.8 on a scale of 1 to 10. I love the item, and never want to be with out it. One of the best optional tools that I have added to my tool box, and I would highly rate this for all Aircraft Mechanics in the Hanger or on the line. I am sure that other Non-Aircraft Mechanics would find great uses for this unit as well.

Its great for under dash work, jobs where you can't get an air ratchet easily. It doesn't have much breakaway torque but i didn't expect it anyway.
What is does do well is tighten small bolts and nuts rapidly, Runs a very long time on a charge, holds a charge when not used for a long time also.
Charges fairly rapidly and tolerates a suprising amount of abuse. I've ordered five of these so far. 2 for other mechanics who also thought they wouldn't hold up but for 20.00 they do really well.

You can't beat this for $20, it works in tight spaces and makes your job easy. You have to understand the limits of this tool though...
It is not a breaker bar or designed to put final torque on fasteners. There are special tools (like breaker bars and torque wrenches to do this). However, You can undo moderately seized bolts with this thing in manual mode.
This tool has just enough torque not to destroy most fasteners. A valve cover gasket or oil pan bolt should be about 80 in/lbs, so this tool takes you 1/2 way there so you can finish with a torque wrench or manual mode. People complaining about lack of torque do not understand the tool. Also, I suggest starting fasteners by hand(fingers), this tool (or any power tool) can crossthread (you don't want this).
It is mainly designed to unscrew long fasteners situated in unholy places. For example working behind a desk. Or the lower A/C air plenum bolts on a Ford Explorer, which are 2" long studs in a place where you have to strain your shoulder in a very tight area under the hood. The hard way is about 10 minutes of clicking 1/8 turns with a ratchet. Another great use would be taking off the 15 or so transmission pan bolts when you drain the fluid. And when they go back you don't have to worry about stripping the threads (again start by hand).
Having something so light and portable without wires or air hoses is a dream come true.
You can add an inexpensive attachment called a universal to this tool, and you can position the tool almost anywhere. You can also use 1/4" extensions for infinite versatility.
I can't speak for durability of this tool, since I only have it a while. It seems like a quality tool though, even the most expensive tools can have lemons. It has a 1yr warranty that can be doubled with a credit card. If I was a professional and for its price I would probably have two, keeping one at home as a backup if it breaks. I see some reviews here of professional technicians using this every day. Even if it lasted even 2 years at that price, I would still be satisfied!

This tool is a terrific addition to my tool collection. Its primary use is to make removal and tightening of bolts faster, and it does that very well.
But I use it for a lot more than nuts and bolts. Attach a driver adapter and this tool becomes a power screw driver that is powerful and will fit into spaces a regular drill or power screw driver will not.
I've also used the adapter to attach drill bits. This tool can then be used to drill holes in tight spaces. If you need to drill a lot of right angle holes a more expensive angle drill is better, but for the occasional times you need an angle drill this tool will work.
The lithium battery holds a charge for a very long time. I've used this tool quite a bit and only have recharged it a handful of times.
This is one of those tools that you need to use it to appreciate how handy it is. A lot of people are going to miss this tool because they don't think they would use it enough to justify the purchase. That's too bad because this is a great tool for the price.

I actually received this as a free item when I bought a set of Bosch Icon wipers and like it so much that I'm buying 2 more as Christmas gifts for my brother and father. This tool isn't designed to break off bolts when working on your car, but for general use it's great! I've actually have used it when replacing the starter on my car though. There was very limited space to get the bolts off so I broke them lose with my 3/8" wrench and used the Skil wrench to get them the rest of the way out and to get them started when putting them back in. It's not like a drill in which the power is delivered steady, it's more like an impact wrench where the power is delivered in very quick bursts.
All in all, it's a very well built tool, feels solid and is a good size. If they made something like this as a 3/8" drive and maybe bump it to 18v, it would be as good as gold for someone like me :)

He does AC repair and he is a stickler for perfection, because he says his customers deserve to get quality work for the money they spend. He was a happy camper when the package arrived. It's amazing how tools make a man happy. I had never ordered anything from Amazon so I was not sure if this would be the same quality wrench as he previously had. I purchased the Power Wrench after seeing it in a "What's New" section of a magazine. It has grown to be my favorite tool in my tool box.
Before this tool, when I had to tighten screws in tight spaces I've used little stubby screw drivers. But with the Phillips head attachment, I find the Power Wrench works every where the stubby screw drivers were. Not only does it work, it works better. It takes less time and has less hand fatigue.
I started out using it is a pretty specialized application, but now I use it to drive everything from screws, nuts and hex screws (putting together Ikea furniture was never easier).
It has two modes. The Power Wrench mode, where you pull the trigger and it engages the motor. It works by ratcheting a small metal piece in the head back and forth. It is fairly noisy but it provides more power than you would expect a 7.2V tool to provide. It can also be used as a manual wrench. I really like that when the battery is too low to drive something, you still can use it.
The Power Wrench bundle is just a starter if you are going to use it often. Any 1/4" socket or tool will fit onto the end of it. I've bought little wrench and socket sets (both metric and standard) to extend the functionality along with a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter. Paired with my larger socket set, sometimes I break lose nuts and the use the Power Wrench with the 3/8" adapter where I would normally be removing it with my fingers.
I've given several of these as gifts and recommend them to everyone.

I have yet to see a greater cordless tool than this one to doubt myselt that this review is not reliable. First off, It's operated by a lithium ion rechargeable battery that i can use it any time i need without worrying that it has no power. Charging is easy and quick also. Very portable and handy - It comes with extra bits and sockets which i have not used because as a mechanic I have plenty of sockets and bits that I use for this tool. I have used other cordless ratchet and there is one that is also cool but it is pricey and bulkier than this one. Secondly, the construction seems rigid and sturdy and it looks sophisticated to me and it does not look like it is just a $50 tool either. You can use it to loosen nuts without using its power only by just manually turning it as manual ratchet then you can just flip the switch to turn its loosening torque to remove the nuts or screws whatever fastener there may be. I have used this for over a year now and have been using this tool almost everyday as a Auto service technician. I used it to remove bolts and nuts and screws when I do maintenance, tune up - very nice tool to remove and install spark plugs. I just use an adapter to fit a 3/8 spark plug socket. Loose a spark plug by hand flip the switch and then tight it back on with power then torque with hand. You can use it as a manual ratchet and use the power to speed up the loosening or the tightening. On water pumps and timing belts removal and installation, this tool is a time saver! On oil and transmission pans - this tool is a time and thread saver as well. It wont over-torque your oil pan bolts.
Thirdly, I love the look and feel of it, the weight is so balanced and the grip is astounding - it wont slip out of your hand. Fourthly, The sound is not annoying like other cordless or air ratchet. Fifthly, I love this product. Sixthly, I love it! 7thly, I love it! 8thly I love it really! Lastly, You will love it too! Promise!

It stops just short of required 8 pounds torgue and gives you decent battery time. I don't think any cordless tool would be perfect for this job. It would be nice if the batteries would last for 8 hours, they don't. If used continually (with slight torque) it is good for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. If left in the sun the battery drains fast. I really like the concept of this tool. I'm fine with the limited power and needing to start or end in manual mode. However, when starting or stopping a bolt in manual mode, I feel as though I'm going to break this thing and I'm not a very large guy. The handle flexes a little which is very disconcerting when you are trying to start a potentially stuck bolt. I frequently resort to using my old sturdy ratchet sets to start with and switch to this if the bolt is long and I'm feeling lazy. It's difficult to tell how much torque you are using to tighten a bolt since the handle flexes. So, be careful with situations where you really need to know that something is tightened properly. Wait for a sale or a really good package deal with this one. I wouldn't recommend paying over $40 for it. It's just not powerful or sturdy enough to warrant that much money. I was able to find it packaged with a Skil 2336-02 iXO Lithium-Ion Cordless Screwdriver for $50. I had a coupon for $10 off, so I can't really complain. When I do place the Skil wrench on the charger there is no change in the led color light. Either the tool or charger is completely dead?!
The couple times I did use the Skil wrench though it was very handy and cool tool and would love to have a replacement but I am very hesitant as I am reading other owners are having similar issues. Not good! Absolutely disappointed that the tool would just die for no apparent reason. It was working the last time I used the tool, afterwards I placed the tool onto the charger and came back a month or two later and now the tool is completely dead. Arrrg!

It had a nice heft to it. The first time I used it I think I discovered why they reduced the price. The problem is in the design. If you just pop on a socket or screw driver bit, most of the time the body of the tool or your hand will be interferring with the wall or whatever else it is you are working on. This can be somewhat mitigated by adding an extension to your tooling, but this can be awkward. Also the tool runs at a pretty slow speed. I have decided to keep it and put it in our utility room for use inside the house on small projects, but it will never be one of my favorites.

The drive size is the most important part of the description, right up there with the price. When you pout the conversion on it it becomes clumsy.
Are you going to make another one? 3/8ths this time. please
I am still waiting.,/./././

Let me first say that I do not have a problem with Skil. I own several of their tools and use them all the time with no problems. Yet I found this product to be a waste of money.
I purchased this "power wrench" at Wal-ly Mart-inez for just over $60 with tax a couple weeks ago because I was installing 2 pedestal sinks in tight spaces and thought this would be great for screwing in the lag bolts into the wall stud (piloted hole of course). Right at the top of the box it states 400 in/lbs. of torque, that would knock them right in. I noticed it had a Li-Ion battery as well which was just icing on the cake. I have had a handy little mini Skil driver in my electrical pouch that charged in 15-30 minutes and has worked great for me. So with that in mind I justified what I thought was a good deal for the features.
When I finally got to installing the sinks I pulled out the "power wrench" and noticed the thing was dead and not going to work, so I figured I would wait 30 minutes and let it charge. I waited and waited and waited and the red charging light was still on after an hour. I thought something was wrong with the unit so I looked in the manual and low and behold A 3-5 HOUR CHARGE TIME!!!! You have got to be kidding me. They don't mention anything on the package about that.
I figured this thing must pack a punch so it needed some extra charge time for the big battery, so needless to say I waited the extra couple of hours for it to finish charging. When it finally fully charged everything else was set to go. I was driving a 2" long 5/16" lag screw into a 2x6 behind sheetrock with a 1/4" pilot hole. The "power wrench" got about 1/2 - 3/4 of the way before it couldn't "power wrench" anymore. I then had to manually drive the lag screw home. I knew something was wrong. This thing has 400 in/lbs. of torque. I again looked in the manual and this thing has 400 in/lbs. of MANUAL torque. I went back to the box which I initially saw and of course there is a little asterisk next to the Powerful - 400 in/lbs of torque, and in tiny little print on the bottom back of the box is the asterisk with the words "in manual ratchet mode." Come to find out through online searches this thing only has 75 in/lbs of torque in auto mode. Isn't this why I bought the damn thing was for auto and not manual because I already have great manual ratchets. I don't think that driving 5/16" lag screws into piloted holes is a Heavy Duty task but it was for the "power wrench."
I feel very duped by Skil with this purchase. While the idea of the tool is great I don't think this "power wrench" is even worth half of what I paid for it. I would have paid the price or more than I did for a corded unit with more torque. At a time where I see cordless power tools getting better and better the "power wrench" is definitely a sign of regression.
Keep in mind that when you buy this tool what you are essentially buying is an Electric Manual Ratchet.
Why don't they make a corded version of this with more torque???? Maybe in a 3/8" or 1/2" socket size. Oh well.....
UPDATE July 12, 2008:
I owned this piece of junk for not even a month and it crapped out on me. Fully charged I push the button and nothing. Called Skil service and they were great like always, but I had to ship it and pay for it to get this piece of junk fixed. Actually, they just sent me another reconditioned unit. So I guess a lot of them crap out. People, this thing is really junk. Don't buy it unless you get it for like 20 bucks. I'd hate to see anybody else get ripped off by paying 60+ bucks for it.

Reviewed by: BXB California

The wrench has a 1/4" square bit head which only fits small sockets. It does not come with an adapter to step-up to the normal square bit heads for socket wrenches. (It does come with a few socket and screw bits that fit the 1/4" bit). I learned the hard way when I took it out for a Sunday project and it didn't fit my sockets. I will try to find at the hardware store a step-up converter but it should have come with one.

At first I thought I was going to love my new Skil 2372-01 7.2 Volt Lithium-Ion Power Wrench after reading all of the great reviews (and the price was a bargain at only $20!). I didn't have an immediate need for it, so it sat charging for a couple of months before I began to build a 4'x 6' chicken coop which wasn't a terribly huge project but it called for an electric screwdriver.
I first drilled holes, but found that I couldn't use 3" screws in them as it made the screwdriver get very hot, like it was being overworked, so I switched to 2-1/2" screws and 1-1/2" screws when working with the plywood (not my preference, but I didn't want to push it with the screwdriver). I used it a couple of days, recharging it after each use. On about the 3rd day, the power got low, so I charged it overnight. When I went to use it the next day it was completely dead and unable to be revived after trying a number of things.
The seller wouldn't take it back because it was after 30 days (though less than a week after its first use). I went to Target, purchased a Black and Decker 6-volt (no wrench feature, but that's okay) and it was only $25 retail price. I finished my coop and chicken run with it, using 3" screws with no problem. In addition, I have never run out of power with my B&D, I charge it at night because I am finished using it, not because it is out of juice like the Skil one was.
I have a Skil jigsaw which I love, but this screwdriver/wrench was a real disappointment.

I have purchased approximately 10 or so of these wrenches over then past 2 years.I purchased extended warranty for a few bucks extra. Problem with that is that there is/was such a high failure rate of these ratchets that local retailers are not renewing stock of them once they are out.
As stated by other folks, these cordless ratchets just simply quit working. End of story. So far, I have had six of them fail, all less than a year old. Even had several warranty replacement ones failed !!! There is a mass defect in this tool and Skil/Bosch needs to step up to the plate and admit it.
I have had brand new,out of the box units setting in the "Smart" charger in use for only several months[light use I might add] only to go to use it and it is dead. The charge light is green constantly with only a flicker of red when you push the trigger switch while in the charger. The charger output is there at about 16 volts but whether it is regulated voltage by the time the wrench dies,I dont know. It seems to be a battery and/or charger issue. I'm thinkin that the ole Skil Smartcharger aint so smart and have been killing the Lithium-Ion cells in the wrench.... OR cells are defective from the get-go. I don't think it is a switch problem in the wrench. Just guessing though.
Sad thing is that I LOVE this tool! It is wonderful for low torque duty as in dashboards or many light duty jobs. With this widespread failure occuring, they just don't last. Skil needs to go back to the drawing board and redesign OR repair what ever is happening to these ratchets.
The 1/4" cordless ratchet is a fantastic tool concept that just hasn't been quit perfected as a reliable product.... by any manufacturer that I am aware of.
I haven't talked to Skil for quite awhile but will be calling soon to see if they have taken positive steps to get reliable ratchets to purchasers who want and love this tool!

Reading a few of the comments on this page, I am having a similar problem. I don't use the tool much, in the past year, I've only used it a couple times, but now, it's completely dead. The charger light is a solid green indicating a full charge...but nothing, tool is completely dead.
The couple times I used it though for some simple jobs around the house, it was a cool tool and very handy...just very disappointed that the tool is now DOA for no apparent reason, still looks like brand new and there is no reason for it NOT to work. (ie abuse).
Wouldn't mind having another one, if I could get a better gaurantee that it would work for more than a few turns. But, don't see that happening, so will not buy again.

I have purchased 2 of these. I love the concept and functionality, but after having the second one quit on me shortly after purchasing it. I disassembled both ratchets only to find the same issue. The magnets in the motors ended up in little pieces. I did not drop them to cause this or abuse them in any way. So, I went to Skil website to get parts and everything for this ratchet has been discontinued. Skil really dropped the ball on this one, I would rather pay a bit more and have a quality tool. I have a lot of Skil tools but in the future I probably will not purchase any more from them or their Bosch counterpart only because of the way they have dealt with this ratchet. A good company would have recalled them or at least replaced their defective motors.

I have owned the ratchet for almost 8 months and used it on a daily basis and have had nothing but problems with the ratchet randomly not working. The battery is charged, but it seems to have a problem with the switch that activates the motor. I disassembled the unit to have a look at the switch and possibly install a new one only to find that the switch is soldered to a circuit board. So its not a simple switch replacement. The ratchet is fantastic and a real time saver when it works. but overall a total waste of time when you need to use the ratchet and it stops working while your in the middle of an assembly job and have to stop and dig out other tools to finish your work. I have read on many other tool websites about customer complaints that the tool just stops working. It's a real shame the tool just lays down and dies. I would say i have used the ratchet enough to have paid for the original cost, but I won't be purchasing another skil ratchet any time soon.

These ratchets are so bad that Skil discontinued them. I have had eight of them and still didn't get a good one. When they charge they get very hot. After a week or two one of the batteries goes bad and something burns up on the circuit board. I took one apart and connected 7.2 volts to the cell input wires and it still didn't work indicating that something else failed also.
